“Turn your face to the Sun and the shadows fall behind
you” -Maori proverb
Wow! What a profound message. But, there is much deeper
meaning than these words imply! What else could it mean?
In astrology, there are 10 planets, including the Sun and
the Moon in which to determine a person’s blueprint. The Sun
sign is the main character in an individual’s natal chart.
i.e., Aries, Libra, and so on… This is what the horoscope
section on the daily newspaper writes about. We are all
familiar of this, right? You know…the section that says, “A
good day for fishing, and there are many different kind of
fish available? Great entertainment. Excellent motivation.
Good to draw in more subscription for the newspaper.
Do remember however, that the horoscope is only the
beginning of astrology. It gets more complicated since it is
communicated only through symbols and configurations.
Let’s start with the symbol. The symbol of the Sun is the
circle – it represents that which is boundless, eternal, and
infinite, without beginning, without end. The circle may
also be seen in the image of a serpent swallowing his own
tail. This represents the eternal self that did not start
here, and does not finish here on earth. The dot in the
middle represents the divine spark at the center of every
living cell; the point of “light which lighteth every man
which cometh into the world”.
During the early Christian era, Roman emperors had
identified themselves with the sun god, and by all of his
symbols, such as eagle, fire, gold, lion and so on.
Constantine, l, was recognized by conventional history to be
the first emperor who actually practiced the worship of the
Sun. He placed these images on his coins, which he dedicated
to “the invincible sun, my guardian”.
In the blueprint of the individual, the Sun represents the
main expression of the individual – the heart and the core
of being-ness. The Sun has a different effect on individuals
born at different times of the year. Wherever the Sun is
located in the blue print or natal chart, (there are 12
departments in the blue print) an astrologer is able to
judge the individual’s general vitality and physique, the
qualities of leadership and the individual’s ability to be
successful in life.
