Crone Myth

Four years ago, I had another website called…Hearth and Crone, in honor of the older women like myself, who seek to find their place in this fast moving society. I knew some ladies would be offended to be called “crone” so I had to look it up in the dictionary, to see what it means to the general public. Sadly, the myth is so convoluted that I cannot blame anyone for not wanting to be associated with the word crone. Here are some examples of the myths.

Myth:             As portrayed in cartoons, a crone is a snaggle-toothed, crooked-backed, smelly-green skinned, ugly, miserable old woman.

My findings:  Most of the women 50+ years of age are well groomed, poised, and quite attractive. Some had cosmetic dentistry done, a few had face-lifts, breast implants, Liposuction and some had employed permanent make up. The majority goes to the gym at least twice a week, gets their haircut and hair color, manicure and pedicure once a month.

Myth:              A crone is an old witch who uses spells and rituals to manipulate and harm others.

My findings:  One did not have to be a crone to manipulate or harm others. Just watch the news on TV and you’ll understand what I mean. Clergy of many different religions and beliefs system also performs rituals. Spells are intentions, as are prayers, to obtain the results desired. Intention to harm another living creature is in absolute defiance to the witch’s principles. Establishing a boundary from harmful individuals is supported.

Myth:              Children should avoid a crone; her influence can be harmful to them.

My findings:  Older women from different cultures are revered and well respected. Their stories give life to the traditions of our ancestors, a bridge to connect with the youth. Their experiences can serve as guiding posts for children’s life progression.

So ladies, let’s claim that power and wisdom and let others know that Grandma is not going to get shut out of society — with or without healthcare reform program.

 Keep Sharing the Light!

Weaver’s Journal: Ooops!

A week or so ago an email was sent to me, the subject: A GOOD READ …I forwarded it to a handful of people and I received some comments about the email. Here’s one of them…

Hi M,  I checked this out on Snopes.com and though it may be true in some states, it is not universal. Your best bet is to always call 911. Let anyone who you sent it to or who sent it to you know.  ~L

Thanks, L .

Halloween Insight

Question:

Is there any explanation why some people have negative impression on witches? How does one know if a practitioner is good or bad witch? Many children love to dress up as a witch during Halloween but many parents are opposed to those who are practicing witches. Why is it ok to them on Halloween and not on any other time of the year?  ~ Neophyte

Answer:

I’m glad you asked these questions. I may not answer them the way most people would like to hear but here is my “whispered humble opinion”.

Witchcraft is a religion so it is like asking, “how do you know if a person is a good Presbyterian, Catholic, Mormon?” etc. Every choice a person makes determines whether he or she is a person of integrity. Does the person respect others and the self? The golden rule “Do unto others as you wish them to do unto you” is one rule that we all should apply into our life – with or without religion’s tenets.

To most people uneducated of the Old Religion’s history, Halloween is a time of fantasy. It is the time to “play” and dress up like those that are scary or a fantasy to them. Any other day of the year the play becomes real so it is no longer acceptable to the parents. The children know better!

Happy All Hollows Everyone!

Weaver’s Journal: The Moon

Question:

Hi m:  I heard some disturbing news that tomorrow we r testing a new
bomb n we r testing it by Bombing the Moon. That does not sound right!
Did u heAr about it. I am sad. ~ D.

Answer:

As far as I understand it is a rocket, not a bomb, being released in high speed to create plume particles in the air, in order to get soil samples – to see if there’s water in the surface. The media must know that the Moon triggers emotions.  Let’s observe and be thankful of Her beauty. I doubt She’ll be damaged; we Earthlings, are not powerful enough to destroy her.  ~Moonweaver
