Hello Everyone! What’s New? Many festivals are celebrated this month of February, including Valentines Day, the Feast Day of Saint Brigid and Candlemas, the celebration on the return of the light, a celebration most pagans and wiccans have been waiting for after a period of being in the dark, cold, and melancholy winter season. Let’s hope the rain will not get in the way of celebrating – although we really need more water, especially here in Southern California. Here’s one open ceremony I’ve done on Candlemas. I had eight floating white tea lights (one for each of the 8 Sabbats) in a big crystal bowl filled with water and soapsuds. Why soapsuds?? They glistened in the dark and looked gorgeous in the middle of the altar when no other lights were lit around the room – as if the stars dropped down to your reach, inviting you to utter your innermost desires and wishes. Then, imagine yourself singing the song… “When you wish upon the Star?” There, just a jest of it… Speaking of rain… we did have a few inches of rain this winter. Our next-door neighbor made a pile of sand bags at the edge of his driveway. The water stream coming down from the upper side of the street was rather strong, forcefully shooting water upward as it hit the sand bags – with the force of a water hose in high speed. Star Watch ~ February, 2010 Opening the month of February is the analytical Moon in Virgo, communicating our concerns in the many aspects of our daily life. We are called to stay focus on what is imperative – health and employment. Many of us are still feeling less enthusiastic - brought by the hard aspect between Saturn and Pluto on January 31. Our future is now being decided on by legislative and executive decisions. The intensity of the said aspect can make many of us feel like running into walls. Or hiding down a rabbit hole may just be suitable for others. But here’s a bit of light coming through… |

The majority of us are taught from a very early age to exercise compassion and humility - these are among the most treasured virtues but not useful in conflict. I will not use my treasured Kuan Yin porcelain as a weapon. Similar to what Hector in “Helen of Troy” says, “ the god Apollo did not come down to lead their battles against attackers of the Trojans.” Virtue is to be valued in the proper context – only a sword will do in a battle. It is unfortunate to think that no matter what world you walk in – in workplace, temple, prison or streets, there is an underworld of nastiness or just plain evil done by those who find pleasures in seeing others suffer. Whether an attack is physical -assault, rape, murder or whether it is mental -emotional abuse, political, business intrigues, etc, one must be prepared to survive. That does not mean that you have to be a tyrant or an aggressor but instead you have to learn self-defense, how to respond to any situation. No one can be assured of coming out alive from confrontation but at least give yourself a fighting chance. This alone is victory over evil. past Food For Thoughts |
